We believe that waste equals economic inefficiency, so we strive to continuously reduce the energy and resource intensity of our business.Here are a few of our accomplishments:
- Established comprehensive corporate sustainability policies for Legrand, North and Central America, including explicitly stating goals and best practices.
- Became a partner in the Department of Energy's Better Buildings, Better Plants Challenge in 2011 and have since won several awards from the DOE recognizing our accomplishments.
- Recognized by the Alliance to Save Energy through their Star of Energy Efficiency, Industrial Manufacturing Award in 2018.
- Achieved ISO 14001 certification across 18 North American facilities.
- Maintained an EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership and use Certified SmartWay Carriers.
In 2016, we installed a 500kW fuel cell system at our headquarters in West Hartford, CT to improve our buildings energy.

Reducing Our Impact
Legrand Group has committed to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions related to its energy consumption by 30% by 2030 and by 75% by 2050 through a formal commitment to the Science Based Targets Initiative.
Between 2009 and 2017, Legrand has decreased its energy intensity by 48.5%, meeting our pledge to the DOE’s Better Buildings, Better Plants Challenge, ahead of schedule. We continued the commitment by pledging a third time.
In 2019, we diverted 92% of our solid waste from reaching landfills. Our 2022 goal is to divert 99.5% of our solid waste from landfill.
In 2019, we reduced our water intensity by over 25% compared to a 2012 baseline. Our 2022 goal is to maintain or exceed a 25% reduction.
