Questions & Answers

What piece of equipment do I order if my cable and internet outlets that are on the wall where the box fits and must be moved inside the box area?

Asked by: Kim
By using an arlington LV1 or equivalent “old work” cut in ring (open back for low voltage and closed back for electrical) in addition to a couple 2”x1”x1/2” scraps of material behind the pop out wings will allow you to mount standard duplex electrical or low voltage receptacles into either of the top two or bottom (1) knockouts.  I use these at the pre wire and have electric placed in the bottom with a code compliant box and data/audio/hdmi in the top with a open back ring and keystone plate or passthru plate.  These are wonderful for network rooms and for use behind “frame” or any wall mounted TV with a little forethought.  Additional add ons allow you to layer in or shelf additional components.  This gets tedious but it will fit a “one connect” plus other goodies behind a tv or a 48 port switch x2 in a network closet with some finesse.  The larger “cans” have hinged lids instead of these nifty pop out panels so read details closely on what you order

Can a power outlet be installed on the top of the enclosure instead of the bottom? Would the enclosure support the weight?

Asked by: Erik
The enclosure can have either side being the top or bottom. There's 2 outlet knockouts for the standard bottom side configuration and 1 for the top. If you invert this setup you have 2 @ the top and 1 at the bottom. That being said I would keep the 2 towards the bottom and 1 @ the top unless you plan to have the cabling come in from the bottom and that would be extremely weird unless this isn't being placed on the 1st floor or your placing high up on the wall. You can do whatever you want but the standard setup is the most common way to do this. Also you could just as easy set 1 box at the top and 1 @ the bottom or have 3 outlets in the enclosure overall.

I’m looking to use this box in an unheated garage where the temperature will get below 32 degrees. I noticed the operating temperature is 32-122. What is the concern if it gets below 32 or above 122?  I only plan to have excess hdmi and cat6 in it.

Asked by: John
The concern is plastic deformation. While the unit will not spontaneously fail at that temperature, The plastic could experience excess shrinkage at those lower temps. Over a long period of time the plastic may experience cracking due to temperature stresses. If any of this are a hindrance to your use of this product, please consider the Legrand | AV CHIEF PAC series metal wall boxes.

Can this be used behind a TV that is located outdoors under a covered pavilion?

Asked by: Erik
The enclosure is listed for indoor use only. Please consult your local Authority Having Jurisdiction to determine whether the unit will be usable in your application. Pay special attention to the electrical box requirements for this box as it is designed to use a standard indoor metal gang box for power.

Can I install this box from inside into exterior insulated wall with faced batt insulation? If so should I remove the part of the insulation to fit the box? Should I insulate the back side of the box?
