Installation and Setup

Q: Do Legrand Smart lighting devices work with RF Lighting Control, adorne Wi-Fi Lighting, or HomeKit products from Legrand?

No. Each lighting solution is built on a different platform to meet each customer's unique needs. Determine what you want and need from your lighting system to select a single Legrand solution that best suits your lifestyle.

Q: How do I install my Wi-Fi Smart Switch/Wi-Fi Smart Dimmer?

Smart dimmers and switches with Wi-Fi wire the same way as standard electrical devices, but they do require a neutral wire. Printed instructions and online videos are available to support your installation, locate your device's web page here: www.legrand.us/radiant/smart-lighting.

Q: How do I add a lighting device to my system?

Use the Smart Lights app to add lighting devices to your system. Once you have installed your lighting device as directed with the provided instructions, open the Smart Lights app and go to Devices. Click + in the upper right corner to add a device.

Q: Do I need a neutral wire to install my Smart devices?

Yes. Legrand Smart Lighting devices require a neutral wire.

Q: What Wi-Fi routers are compatible with Smart Wi-Fi devices (i.e., are the devices Wi-Fi alliance certified)?

A Wi-Fi Alliance Certification is recommended for your wireless router to ensure compatibility with Smart devices. Check your router's packaging for the Wi-Fi Alliance certification mark. Please use WPA2 secured networks.

Q: How many Smart Wi-Fi devices can I install?

We recommend up to 20 devices. The largest limitation on the number of units is the quality of the home Wi-Fi network.

Q: How do I know if my Smart dimmer will work with my home's fixture or bulb?

The Legrand Smart Dimmer is a patented Tru-Universal dimmer. Unlike other dimmers, it is guaranteed to dim any dimmable light bulb on a standard 120 V, 60 Hz circuit.

Q: What colors are Smart devices available in?

Legrand in wall Smart wiring devices are available in white, light almond and nickel. All Smart devices ship with matching radiant® screwless wall plates.

Q: How do I sign up to use Smart Lights Wi-Fi?

The Smart Lights app guides you through the creation of a Legrand account as part of its setup procedure.

Q: Can Smart Lighting from the radiant® Collection work with 220V /277V?

No, radiant Smart works with household 120 V AC.

Q: If guests use my Wi-Fi, can they control my system?

They potentially can if they have the app, are set up on the same system as your Wi-Fi, and you have also given them access to your Legrand Smart Wi-Fi account. Most Wi-Fi routers today have a guest mode. In those circumstances, your Wi-Fi router will allow your guests to have access to the Internet, but will not allow them to access specific devices on your network.

Q: If guests use my Wi-Fi, can they control my system after they have left?

No, not unless you specifically give them access via your Legrand Smart Wi-Fi login.

Q: What is the little toggle switch on the side of my dimmer?

It is called an air gap switch and it physically disconnects any power from reaching the lighting load that is connected to it. It is a UL requirement for safety.

Q: Can I add or replace a 3-way device with a Wi-Fi Smart device?

The in-wall Wi-Fi Switch is designed to connect with standard 3-way devices. That means you only need to change out one of the devices with a smart switch in an existing 3-Way.  For the Smart dimmer, one Smart dimmer is installed and the other locations need to be changed out with a HMR multi-location remote.

Q: Can I add a 3-way switch with radiant® Smart?

Yes. For Wi-Fi products, any 3-Way switch will work with the Wi-Fi Switch. For Wi-Fi dimming, use the HMR remote dimmers.  Both solutions utilize traditional 3-way wiring in the walls.

Q: What is a Tru-Universal Dimmer?

The lamp market is in a state of transition. Incandescent lamps are being phased out, and there is a market shift toward Compact Fluorescents (CFLs) and Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs). An important part of this change is the ongoing debate around the issues of energy efficiency and associated costs, and the environmental impact of the new lamp technologies. While these issues are top of mind, and of great importance, another challenge is confronting end-users, contractors and distributors. Older-generation dimmers are not compatible with the new types of lamps on the market. Legrand’s radiant® Tru-Universal Dimmer alleviates this concern and simplifies the dimming market by working with any dimmable 120V bulb or fixture.

Q: How many bulbs can a switch control?

Device count is dependent on the electrical load of the bulbs. Please see the ratings on the product page specific to your device: https://www.legrand.us/radiant/smart-lighting.

Q: How many bulbs can a dimmer control?

Please see the ratings on the product page specific to your device: https://www.legrand.us/radiant/smart-lighting. For dimmers, do not exceed 80% of the rated load. For more detailed questions, please contact our technical support at: 877-833-3303, 8 am - 8 pm Eastern, M-F, or by email at: smartlighting@legrand.us.

Q: Can these be co-located in the same box?

Yes. Please see the de-rating guides available in the installation manual of your product. Also check the ratings on your device's product page: https://www.legrand.us/radiant/smart-lighting.

Q: What is the rating on these devices and do I need to de-rate them when ganged?

Please see the de-rating guides available in the installation manual of your product. Also check the ratings on your device's product page: https://www.legrand.us/radiant/smart-lighting.

Q: What is the dimmer setting "Max Trim"?

This is an adjustable setting that sets how bright the bulb can be.  Some customers use this to lower the maximum brightness to save additional electricity.

Q: What is the dimmer setting "Min Trim"?

This is an adjustable setting that sets how low to dim the bulb on the dimmer, which is especially useful for LED bulbs. LED bulbs do not have as broad of a dim range as incandescent bulbs and they can often flicker if they are set too low. Adjusting the low end or Min Trim to just above a bulb's flicker point is the intention of this setting.

Q: What countries does Smart Lighting from the radiant® Collection support?

Smart Lighting from the radiant® Collection was designed on the 120V/60Hz systems of the USA and Canada.

Q: Why do you want to know my location?

Location is required to accurately calculate schedules and scenes associated with sunrise and sunset.

Q: How much bandwidth does the Wi-Fi system use?

The data size of the commands that are used to send and receive controls on devices is very small- just a few kilobits per message.

Q: Is there a fee to create or use the Smart Lights Wi-Fi account?

No, there are no fees to use the service.

Q: I have multiple homes that I want to use radiant® Smart in. Can I use the same login for both homes?

It is not recommended as they will look like they are the same home, but it is technically possible. Determine what setup works best for you.

Q: Are all my settings lost if my phone dies/gets lost/stolen?

No. Your settings are saved locally via your devices and in the cloud. It would be advised to change your Cloud password, however.

Q: If the Internet goes down will my system still work?

Yes, but some features may not be available, such as Alexa or Google voice integration.

Q: Can used Smart lighting devices be installed?

It is not recommended to install used products purchased from someone else.

Q: What is GFCI?

GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. It is like a circuit breaker available at the point of use that is designed to reduce the risk of electrical shock. Its design shuts off power when it detects current not flowing in an appropriate way.

Q: What type of GFCI is included in the Smart Outdoor Plug-In?

The outdoor plug-in is an auto-reset GFCI. That means that in the event of a power failure or when unplugged, it will default to being on when power is restored. It does not need to be manually reset.

Q: Can I reset the GFCI remotely?

No, Electrical code prohibits resetting a GFCI remotely for safety

Q: If I lose my QR code that was on the front of my device how do I onboard the device? Each device will have a 2nd QR code on the device itself.

In-Wall Products it will located behind the wall plate/subplate. That QR code will have the same information as the original.

On plug-in devices the 2nd QR code is stamped on the back of the product.

If you have any issues with the 2nd QR code, Tech Support can assist you in creating the QR code again.
