Does this receptacle, in combination with a standard breaker meet the Code requirement of 210.12 (A)(1-6) or 210.12 (D)(2)?
Thank you for your inquiry. For new construction, pursuant to NEC 2023 Article 210.12(A)(2), AFCI protection is permitted through use of a listed branch/feeder-type AFCI installed at the origin of the branch circuit in combination with a listed outlet branch-circuit type AFCI installed on the branch circuit at the first outlet box, which shall be marked to indicate that it is the first outlet of the branch circuit.
For retrofit construction (branch circuit wiring extensions, modifications or replacements) in areas specified in NEC 2023 Articles 210.12(B), (C), or (D), the branch circuit shall be protected by one of the following:
(1)- By any of the means described in NEC 2023 Article 210.12(A)(1) through (A)(6) or (2)- A listed outlet-branch circuit type AFCI located at the first receptacle outlet of the existing branch circuit.
All applications must be installed according to local code requirements and are subject to final approval by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
