can legrand 3854 surface mount range recept be installed on floor face up?

Mechanically and electrically it can be used in any position, BUT most AHJ’s frown on a receptacle mounted face up due to possibility of contamination or conductive parts falling into unused openings (which on these devices are relatively large) possibly causing arcing or preventing full insertion of a plug. NEC specifically prohibits face up installation in areas where liquid contamination is likely which means because they don’t prohibit it for all locations indicates it is acceptable, but AHJ has final say. We recommend asking AHJ(your local inspector) regarding specific installation / application in your area.
