Questions & Answers

The Engineer and architect for the project are showing these on a rooftop in a planter area. Can these be anchored to the concrete slab and them burred with the receptacle portion above the soil line? This type of application is not illustrated.

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, The Outdoor Power Pedestal requires any standard concrete tube diameter size of 8", 10", or 12". The concrete studs provided are 2 1/4" long and only require a minimum of 2 inches of concrete. With regards to site prep, that will vary based on a few different factors. For stand-alone applications, where the concrete pad is not part of a larger installation, the concrete should extend below the frost line so it doesn't move when the ground freezes. Also, for areas that don't freeze, the depth of the concrete needs to provide sufficient support so that the pedestal will not move if pushed on. This will depend on soil type and conditions as well as what is around the pedestal. A civil engineer should be consulted if there are any questions. For installations where the power pedestal will be installed as part of a larger concrete pad, such as a sidewalk or patio, they will need to ensure that proper precautions are taken for the base prep to prevent cracking and movement of the entire concrete pad. The conduit must always be buried to a depth required by code. The local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) should be consulted for approval of installation in a planter on a rooftop.

What type of cover plate is required for a two gang with two duplex receptacles on a power pedestal with hinged cover? A standard vynal wall plate?

Asked by: JaredP
Hi Jared, For 15-20A devices,weather-resistance devices must be used with an in-use cover which is what the hinged cover would act as. You can use a standard wall plate to cover the gaps around the receptacles. Thanks,
