Is 5400 series paintable? If so what types of paint are recommended and are their any special primers or preparation techniques?

Asked by: Winkels Electric
Hi, To paint a plastic raceway, it is not necessary to sand before painting. Just apply the primer and then paint using only latex-based paint. Even though primer is not a necessary element when painting plastic or steel raceways, better results are achieved when using it. Thanks,

Follow up ... 5474 will transition to 400 raceway. YOUR cut sheet for 400/800/2300 Raceway indicates specifically 2338 indicates: "For hanging smoke/fire alarms and other security devices with 3 1/2" (89mm) or 4 1/16" (103mm)." Is this incorrect?

Asked by: John Albers
Hi John, The catalog pages/cut sheet description for the 2338 box are incorrect. We are working on getting that updated, and we cannot advise to use nonmetallic raceway systems with fire alarm cabling/applications. If you need any additional information, please feel free to reach out to us directly at 1-844-957-3783, option 2 for Wiremold, followed by option 2 again for tech support. You can also email us directly at technical.support@legrand.us. Thank you.

Follow up to a previous question: Could I use he 5415 fitting to transition to the series 400 Raceway and then a 2338A Fixture Box for integrating smoke detectors from a fire alarm system?

Asked by: John Albers
Hello John, 5415 cannot be used to transition from 5400 to 400 raceway. However, 5474 is a fitting that would allow for this transition to 400 raceway. Unfortunately nonmetallic raceways are not recommended for use with fire alarm systems or smoke detectors. Thank you!

I'm replacing an existing raceway that is undersized but the installation of 5400 raceway will require relocating existing smoke detectors. Could I use a 5450 or 5450T bracket to which I would screw the mounting plate for the smoke detector?

Asked by: John Albers
But I could use the 5415 fitting to transition to the series 400 Raceway and then a 2338A Fixture Box, right? Your 400/800/2300 raceway cut sheet specifically includes the note "For hanging smoke/fire alarms and other security devices with 3 1/2" (89mm) or 4 1/16" (103mm) mounting centers. Not for use with ceiling fans." I'm clarifying because in your answer you make a more general statement "nonmetallic raceways are not recommended for use with fire alarm systems or smoke detectors." THANKS

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, For lead time requests on standard products please email our customer support team directly at customer.support-wm@legrand.us. The 5400 series has multiple parts and they will need to have specific parts numbers to advise availability. I have provided a link below for the full parts listing. 5400 series cut sheet: https://legrand.webdamdb.com/directdownload.php?ti=55653929&tok=rtkFXlyMIAsyjcjViEVHtgRR For the 30TC-4WH pole, it is a blank pole and will require qty (5) 30TP-BWH add-on plates for field installation of the duplex receptacles. For factory pre-wired poles with that configuration it would be a custom product. For help with custom products you will need to contact our local Legrand rep. Below are the steps for finding the best point of contact in your area: Click on this link: https://www.legrand.us/where-to-buy select “shop local or find a sales rep” Under where to buy select “sales rep” Under brand name select “Wiremold” Under who are you, select which category best describes you Enter search (magnifying glass), below the map you’ll see the local rep in your area.

Can the 5400 series wire way be used in a pool environment?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, Our raceway systems are covered under article and 386 of the NEC. They are all designed for interior dry locations, not subject to corrosive vapors. A pool area will most likely be deemed a damp or wet location. The installation can only be approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The AHJ will need to determine if the installation complies with any and all national and local code requirements. Thank you,
